History
Father PJ Kelly named this tune The Rossmore Jetty, after the pier on the river Shannon near his hometown Woodford in East Galway.
Kelly was ordained a priest in the Columban order in 1950 and was assigned to a post in Fiji, where he stayed for some 20 years, subsequently serving in Pakistan and Perth before returning to Ireland. His first piece ("The Lough Derg Jig") was composed in 1960, when he returned to his home in Woodford for a holiday.
Apparently, Father Kelly became a prolific composer, and as a result, a variety of tunes (reels, marches, jigs) are attributed to him. Unfortunately, instead of keeping the titles given by him, most folk simply refer to them as Father Kelly's (reel, jig, march, etc.), and then having to keep track of which one by giving them a number. And of course, everyone did it differently. This particular tune was entitled "The Rossmore Jetty" by him, and is usually referred to as Father Kelly's (Reel, #1 and sometimes #2).
